A tour of our family’s homeschool room, and a chat about the curriculum we are using to homeschool our kids.

When plans for our public school year were still up in the air because of Covid-19, I began planning for all things homeschool! I researched curriculum, and I began hunting for easy + affordable ways to turn a bedroom into a homeschool room for our 5 kids.
Homeschool Curriculum
We did online school last spring for 2 months and again for another month into school this year. My 3 oldest kids did ok with the workload and learning structure, but Mason and Addie (grades 4 and 1) did not. Being in front of a screen all day was hard for them to learn and engage with their teacher and classmates. It was both frustrating and boring!
So when the decision to pull them out and homeschool full-time was made, I decided to use a curriculum that was not at all online. (So many homeschool programs are virtual nowadays!) And while I do think it’s important to teach them to type and be computer-proficient, I think it is just as important to know how to write with a pencil, to practice their penmanship, and to work out problems on paper.
The Good and Beautiful Homeschool Curriculum
I looked at over a dozen homeschool curriculums over the summer to find the best fit for us and I eventually settled on The Good and Beautiful. This curriculum is affordable, simple to use, and absolutely perfect for our family! It is one with actual textbooks and worksheets for core subjects that you can supplement with online materials as you choose.
The textbooks are beautifully written and they make learning FUN! I also loved that the lessons are mostly “open and go”, so planning for multiple kids is a breeze.
And speaking of multiple kids, this curriculum teaches Math and Language Arts subjects by grade, but History and Science can be done as a family. Their text shares a lesson and discussion that you can have as a group, then it outlines optional activities for various grades/ages. We have had some of the best times together during these group lessons!
The Good and Beautiful offers several of their subjects as free PDFS, so you can try it before you buy it. I’ve cannot recommend this curriculum enough. If you’re frustrated with public schools or if you’re looking for something different, definitely give this program a try!

Homeschool Room Decor Ideas
When it came to transforming this room from a bedroom to a classroom, my goal was to keep it simple and keep it affordable. My kids range in ages from 1st grade to Senior in High School, so I kept things fun, but sophisticated.
Most of the items I used in here were things I already owned and used in other parts of the house, but I’ll do my best to link what I can find online.
